I know, wasting a can of beer is bad, but beer can chicken is tasty. I actually have it on the grill now.
So, any hints on how to make it on a campfire? Like how do I cover it and how close to the fire, etc.
Thanx everyone.

Mikhen........ I think away to do beer can chicken over the fire would be to use a tripod with a grill rack. I would get a oven thermometer to place on the rack to keep a eye on the tempature, that way you could raise or lower the rack with using a tripod set-up. As far as cover maybe using a big pot up side down over the chicken. Hope this helps you out.

That sounds good right now. I think we will try to make the beer can chicken this summer while camping on the fire.

Best when Yuengling Lager is used.
Tip......OPEN the can before putting on the fire. Shards of aluminum in the bird don't taste to good, so I hear.

Fold some heavy duty tin foil to make a bag(shiny side in)that will fit over the chicken for your cover. Next time you make it on your grill at home hold your hand about 8 inches about the grill and count how long it takes till you have to move it.The same count over the campfire is your cooking temp.I did one last year and took pictures to show you how then could not figure out how to post them.now I can not find them.

Beer can chicken is when you put the chicken over a can of beer to cook it. As long as the can is open. That way the beer flavor cooks into the chicken. (at least that is how it was explained to me)
