I love them all also!!!

There are a lot of times that mountain pies are our dinner on Saturday. Kids get to make whatever they want and wife and I can really experiment with different fixings.

Ham and cheese with hot peppers would be my all time favorite. :cook

yea i had mine first while camping at raystown, CampPA Ranger, Wildflower and Fireside introduced me and photobug to these mountain pies. Whoohoo they are delicious! Mushrooms, pizza sauce, pepperoni, etc.

What do you guys make yours with? what are other options to make these?

Well, most of my camping was done in the backyard as a kid. I just started to camp more in the last few years. It could also be more of a PA thing and I've only been here a few years.

Use all the mixings for tacos, but instead of bread, use the Pillsbury croissant things that are rolled up in a tube.

Here is one I almost forgot about. While camping one time we forgot our toaster (the kids have to have their toast you know) So thinking fast to keep the kids happy I told my wife to cook the eggs and bacon, as she was doing that I got a fire going and made Mountain Pie breakfast sandwiches. Everyone was very happy. clever

We have used our mountain pie makers on the gas grill on the deck in the winter time. Good way to get your mountain pie in the winter time to hold you over till camping season.

Yeah... great idea...

My wife had one of those electric sandwich makers from college...

Don't laugh... the name of it is a stuff and munch...

lol

But you can make two mountain lies it in anytime...

Pretty nice to have... we take it in the caller and if we are too tired to build a fire or it is rainy, just plug it in, stuff, and munch! thumbs

Who says mountain pie makers are just for camping. We use ours year round, either outside at the fire ring or at the wood-stove. So keep enjoying those pie irons.

for some reason though ranger, those electric sandwich makers still don't seem quite the same as a good ole mountain pie over the fire

We make pies every trip, usually just for breakfast. Getting tired of burgers and dogs for Saturday's lunch. I think this Saturday will be steak and cheese or pizza.

A few years ago we were camping A Kozy Rest, and they were having a Mountain Pie contest. I thought I had it made, but my Aunt ended up winning. She made a Peanut butter, Banana fluff,(marshmallow fluff) pie. I made Blueberry Stuffed French toast(egg washed Texas toast, with blueberry and cream cheese filling) topped with Cinnamon and powdered sugar . I entered into the Breakfast category, but the Judges put me in the desert cat. Still tasted good to me.

We love mountain pies. So far we have made
Cherry/apple Pie filling
Pizza (sauce, cheese, pepperoni, onion, green peppers)
Pizza burgers (hamburger and pizza ingredients)
Patty melts
BBQ chicken

Just saw the ones for tacos and tuna melt. Always looking for new ideas, they are all great!

Has anyone made a taco kind using a flour tortilla instead of bread? I read about this online, but I wasn't sure if the tortilla would hold up.

I was looking through this thread for some inspiration for an upcoming camping trip, and I've been motivated to make some raspberry pie filling for mountain pies from our fresh raspberries! Thanks all, for the great ideas!
