In a pinch, or to get smaller stuff to burn you can also use cotton balls covered in vaseline. Coat em', and stick them in a little container to store with your other gear. However, I have a friend who always uses fire starters..and they do work like a charm. You can also make your own on the off season (for those who don't camp year round) if you have cabin fever using wood shavings/chips and wax. (like this as one example)
