Can anyone stear me in the right direction for a pop up camper. I'm interested in what brands you guys feel will be the most reliable in terms quality and also what you feel about the pop ups with the bump out. I don't want o buy something that is known for problems. It's going to be me my wife and my 2 boys so that's why I was thinking about the bump out for the kitchen, as I assume it will convert to another bed. Thanks

There are many makes and brands of pop up campers out there. A small tip out/bump out/slide out will provide you with a bit more interior space for sure. Some people opt to go with a pop up that has a wet bath/porta potty included in the lay out. However keep in mind that most of these toilets are a canister style toilet, in which you pull out and carry to the dump station to dispose of the waste. There are very few pop up campers that have actual waste water holding tanks. Pop ups are a great way to start camping, and allow your family to create some great memories.

Great, thank you. I've been doing a little reserch and I'm also interested in the hybrids. I guess I will go to the rv show in Hershey and Timonium and see what's all out there.

I have owned two pop-ups, both Coleman. The last one is 10 years old and is in great shape. We bought it with a slide and air conditioner. For a family of 4, a slide is a must. I would steer clear of the shower unit. They are small and add a lot of moisture to the inside. You'll be much more comfortable at the shower house. Make sure it has an outside shower head, you can clean those boys up outside. You can buy a stand alone porta-potty a lot cheaper than adding a cassette toilet to the unit. Pop-ups are great in the respect that you don't need as much pulling power, they don't require much space to store when not using and they're easy to maneuver in most campgrounds. However they do require some set-up time and rain can cause a few challenges.

We looked at pop ups - but found that going to a light trailer worked better for us. There are some very, very nice pop ups though

That was our feeling too- that a light trailer was a better option for us- we were worried about the bathroom in a pop-up- especially with the 16 yr old LOL

Bathroom was a nice plus, our trailer has bunks which was a HUGE plus.

We had also had enough of the tent canvas maintenance, so the idea of going to a pop up and still having to deal with that didn't appeal to us.

We also found that for the price of some of the pop ups we could easily be in a trailer.

I was amazed by how some of the prices of the pop ups were so close to the price of campers? I know we paid about what my friend paid for her popup- she said she didn't know that campers could be about the same price when I told her what we paid for our camper!
we did alot of research though:)

I agree Becka, when we looked, we looked for a pop up, thinking it was a great starter camper and would be cheaper, however, we paid the same thing for our fully loaded travel trailer as we would have for a pop-up....and I am glad we went the route we did. it was the best option for us.
