Night crawlers....a lost tradition? - 06/16/13 08:22 PM

We all know what night crawlers, or night hawks, are. My wife and I were telling our daughter about catching them when we were kid. That was after I found many hole in our garden. So now, my daughter wants to go out tonight to experience the hunt. Is this a lost practice or is it still routinely done?

Our boys still get them at night and our son in law does too I think

Brings back memories of my childhood. I have never taken my kids out but maybe tonight we will share the experience.

My daughters live to go fishing. This is going to be fun.

did it when I was a teenager also but living here in Exeter the ground is all clay and you can't find a worm

I could use a few buckets of some good, red clay.

Re-building. They get wore out after a few years. Best clay I ever had was from a construction project at Alvernia (then) College.

I can say that my boy still goes out at night to get his night crawlers when he know that he will be going out fishing. I just wish that he would use all the night crawlers when he fished so they do not end up in my fridge for a couple of days. LOL
